The Royal Academy of Arts was founded in 1768 and is the oldest arts institution in Britain. Since 1868, it has been based in Burlington House on Piccadilly. To celebrate the 250th anniversary of the institution, David Chipperfield Architects has rejuvenated the Royal Academy's "unloved building" at 6 Burlington Gardens and connected it to the institution's main building, Burlington House. The two buildings are connected with an enclosed concrete bridge. The Lovelace Courtyard in the backyard between Burlington House and Burlington Gardens was designed by Wirtz International. Cobbles with grass joints, a semi-circular path and roof-form trees brings a small bit of green into the heart of London. Van den Berk supplied the Gleditsia triacanthos 'Skyline' and the roof shape London plane trees for this outstanding project.
