‘HANDLING BIG TREES´ TRAINING COURSE FOR LANDSCAPE PROFESSIONALS

Urban developments regularly require the planting or replanting of large trees. Van den Berk Nurseries specialises in the cultivation of medium to extremely large trees, which we deliver throughout Europe. This gives us unrivalled knowledge of how to handle trees of this size without damaging them. We lift the trees using cranes and use a variety of equipment and lifting techniques, depending on the type and size of the tree and the time of year. The trees are carefully loaded using a trolley, loader or telescopic crane to ensure that they arrive at their destination in the best possible condition. Usually that is where our responsibility ends, but we consider it important that trees are also unloaded without any damage and planted correctly. Only then will the trees display good regrowth and add value to the project. In order to help our customers (including international customers) to develop successful greenery projects, we organise training courses aimed at knowledge sharing.

Two-day training course

We offer this course over two days, which are largely spent in the nursery. Van den Berk Nurseries’ production manager leads the group and his team provides the demonstrations. This two-day training course, which is also given in English, includes the following elements:

• Binding trees
• Lifting trees
• Loading in the field
• Loading in the warehouse
• Planting trees
• Anchoring
• Aftercare
• Pruning

The trees that we handle during the two-day course have a stem girth of 30 to 70cm. On request the training can be extended to include a course on plant knowledge, a tour of the nursery or an explanation of the coconut fibre root ball and airpot system.
